The Evolution of Samurai Kin

Samurai kin, or family, has undergone significant evolution throughout Japanese history. Originally, samurai kin was based on blood relations and strict hierarchies within the warrior class. However, as societal structures changed and samurai roles became less prominent, the concept of kinship among samurai also shifted.

During the Edo period, samurai kin became more focused on loyalty to one’s lord and the preservation of family honor.
